Stolen bike creates worries in Oregon neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Oregon Police say they arrested a teen for stealing a bicycle in an Oregon neighborhood, and that the next day a handgun was found a block away from the arrest site.

Police say the bike was stolen from a resident who lives on Bleecker Street just after midnight Thursday. When police found a teen riding the stolen bike, police were lead on a chase.

An officer eventually was able to arrest the 15-year-old suspect. The next morning, a resident living on Crestway Drive found a handgun. Oregon Police say they are now trying to see if the gun is somehow connected to the teen.

"I can tell you that it was within a few blocks of where the 15-year-old was arrest. It is possible that it may be related," said Police Chief Mike Navarre. "The 15-year-old was in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest, and was charged with carrying that concealed weapon."

Police are warning people who own a bicycle to lock them, and to call if you see any suspicious activity.
