LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The solar decathlon team at University of Nevada, Las Vegas brought home a big honor.

The team captured second place in the U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored decathlon, which fielded 19 collegiate teams.

The team built an energy-efficient home and transferred it to California for the contest. The home is powered by the Las Vegas heat, the team said.

The team finished behind the winning team from Vienna University of Technology in Austria.

UNLV's project manager remarked the contest as a life-changing experience for team members, many of whom have never built a house before.
