Man in bullet proof vest shoots graves, leads deputies on chase

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A man is in custody after he shot at gravestones in a Madison County cemetery and led deputies on a chase.

According to authorities, the man shot at several gravestones in Scruggs Cemetery. Investigators said he wore a bullet proof vest and a military style helmet.

Deputies said that when they tried to get the man to surrender, he jumped into a vehicle and led them on a chase that started at Plummer Road and ended at Graywood Court.

When deputies searched the vehicle they found several handguns and long guns.

The man was taken to Huntsville Hospital for a mental evaluation. Charges are pending that evaluation.
