An improvised explosive device was found Wednesday in the parking lot of McGregor Elementary, part of the Washington Local School District.
Public Information Officer Wendy Farran says campus security called Toledo Police after the suspicious bottle was found. The area was quarantined off until school was over, and a voicemail was sent out to parents from the school principal.
Toledo Police report that the bottle was a 'Drano bomb.' The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad was called to the scene and they disabled the device.
No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
District Superintendent Patrick Hickey sent an email to staff, informing them of the incident. In it, he said:
"Aaron Wizgen, our SRO from
TPD, and our Director of Security, Randy Sehl, did an excellent job and
followed our policies and procedures and those of the police department
extremely well. We are following up with an investigation and examination of
our security cameras.
"While situations like this are unpleasant they do give
us an opportunity to see our policies, procedures, and drills put into action.
The staff at McGregor and school district staff took care of kids and
families first and foremost and ensured that student safety was their
overriding responsibility. I am very proud of their efforts."
