LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Actress and singer Pia Zadora expressed her embarrassment about her arrest after the SWAT team was called to her house during the summer.

Zadora was arrested after someone called police June 1 and said Zadora was going crazy and choking him, according to an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

"It started with my 6'2", 300-pound, 33-year-old stepson, who wouldn't leave the house at three in the morning," Zadora told MORE's Sean McCallister. "[He] was keeping my 16-year-old up."

Zadora said that was when, out of frustration, she reached for a garden hose and sprayed her stepson, perhaps escalating the situation.

"My stepson handed my 16-year-old the phone and said, 'Call 911,'" Zadora said. "I went to grab the phone from him, and ... the stepson grabbed it and hung up the call. Next thing you know, SWAT was outside the house."

Zadora was eventually arrested and accused of battery against her 16-year-old son.

"What happened was when I went to grab the phone from my 16-year-old, I had a jagged gel nail, and I accidentally scratched him on the ear."

Zadora avoided jail time in the case, when she accepted a 30-day, suspended sentence last month.

The Golden Globe winner said she learned a valuable lesson from the experience.

"Never to let a family crisis or stupid issue get out of control," Zadora said. "It's a lot of drama, but we're all OK. We're holding together."

Zadora, 61, first gained fame as a child actor on Broadway, starring in Fiddler on the Roof in the mid-1960s. She won her Golden Globe for her performance alongside Stacy Keach and Orson Welles in the 1981 film Butterfly. Additionally, Zadora was nominated for a Grammy award in 1984 for the song Rock It Out.
