LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A gaming company in Las Vegas broke ground Tuesday on a 200,000-square-foot expansion aimed at creating hundreds of jobs.

Konami said it will double the size of its facility on Trade Center Drive across from McCarran International Airport. The new facility will allow the company to house its manufacturing, administration and research and development branches in one place.

Officials said Konami plans to hire about 500 more people to fill the extra space during the next seven years.

"We have approximately 400 employees right now [and] another 30 temporary employees," said Konami Senior Vice President and CCO Thomas Jingoli. "The capacity for the building will allow us to double the size, so we will be able to go up to 1,000 employees once the expansion is completed."

The $40 million expansion is expected to take less than two years to complete, and will open in the summer of 2015.
