The Salt River Project is working to improve the efficiency of the canal system by lining the Western Canal Multi-use Path from Price Road to Alma School Road in Chandler with concrete.
SRP will be starting the concrete lining project on Nov. 1 with an anticipated finish date of Feb. 1, 2014. During this process SRP will be closing both banks of the canal in order for crews and their heavy equipment to work.
This work is being done at a time when the water demand is low to try and keep water interruption to customers at a minimum. The crews will be dredging, hauling and grading the canal in addition to the delivery and placement of the concrete in the canal.
Because of safety purposes, the canal banks will be closed to the public. The closure will include the multi-use path on the south side of the canal that is between Price Road and Alma School Road. However, SRP plans on keeping the path portions that run through Tempe open.
According to SRP an alternative path when heading eastbound from Tempe is to use Country Club Way to Guadalupe Road.
