The life-altering moment for Roy Horn of the iconic Las Vegas Strip duo Siegfried and Roy happened 10 years ago, Oct. 3, 2003, at The Mirage.

At first glance, it seemed like any other performance two had done together over the last 35 years and in front of millions of people.

"They thought it was part of the show. Their friends thought it was part of the show," said Michael Korr, recalling the reactions inside The Mirage showroom that night. "As soon as they made the announcement that something had happened, everyone started to panic a little bit. But it's definitely a night we're not going to forget."

"It didn't appear like it was a viscious attack. It looked like a dog or cat taking their litter out of a basket and taking them to a different part of the room," said Korr, local sales manager at FOX5.

Horn would be the last to call the incident an attack. He's always called what his tiger Montecor did an accident after Horn fainted on stage moments before.

Battling for his life for weeks, and still rehabilitating to this day, Horn insisted Montecor would live, but the event changed the Strip forever.

"Every year when they were here, a new act would come in, magician, magician, magician, magician," said comedian George Wallace, who began performing at The Flamingo in 2003, when comedy acts on The Strip were few and far between.

Since the mauling, comedy has emerged and magic has faded in Las Vegas, but no one had the showmanship of Siegfried and Roy.

"Liberace had that, and Elvis had that, and Sammy Davis Jr. ... But they did it their way and they did it the best," said Wallace.

Thursday was also Horn's 69th birthday. He celebrated at a private party at The Mirage.
