Posted: Updated:

A man was charged with arson after he was seen setting fire to a dumpster outside of a Las Vegas pet hospital.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Jose Gonzalez, 50, was arrested Wednesday morning after walking away from a fire in the 1000 block of East Flamingo Road at about 5:30 a.m.

In police documents, two people saw Gonzalez set the fire directly behind the Paradise Pet Hospital. One of the witnesses followed Gonzalez as he walked away and called 911 in the process, police said.

When an officer arrived, Gonzalez was stopped and questioned about the incident,  subsequently placing a lighter on a police cruiser, according to documents.

Gonzalez was booked on a count of third-degree arson. He was being held at Clark County Detention Center.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the dumpster, police said.

In the police document, an arson investigator stated he was investigating several dumpster fires in the area close to the one set that morning. Police arrested 28-year-old Paul Joyner later Wednesday in connection to blazes in the area.
