Investigators said they arrested a man Wednesday who set several dumpsters and a car ablaze in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

All the fires happened near the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road.

Clark County Fire Department Public Information Officer Stacey Welling said firefighters were first called to the first fire behind an apartment complex on East Rochelle Avenue at 5:24 a.m. She said firefighters arrived to find a burning dumpster. She said several more fires were reported during the next two hours in the same area.

Welling said there was a lull in the activity during the day, but a new fire was reported at 4:24 p.m. behind the Dollar Store on South Maryland Parkway. She said a car fire was reported two minutes later at a nearby business park.

Investigators determined 28-year-old Paul Joyner was arrested in connection with the fires about an hours later near a strip mall on Maryland Parkway, Welling said.

"Our investigators did an outstanding job identifying this suspect and removing him from the streets of our community," said Clark County Fire Chief Bertal Washington. "Some of these fires were very close to building and could have spread rapidly if our firefighters hadn't responded quickly to the scenes."

Joyner was charged with 10 counts of third-degree arson and a single count of attempted arson. More charges are pending, Welling said.

Joyner was arrested in April in connection with similar fires in the same area, Welling said. She said he was released from jail in September after serving a six-month sentence for those fires.
