LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Three members of the Nevada congressional delegation said they and their staff were safe after a shooting near the U.S. Capitol on Thursday.

The Capitol was locked down Thursday morning after police reported a shooting nearby. CNN reported that a "shelter in place" order was issued for people inside the Capitol.

Sen. Dean Heller, R-NV, posted on his Twitter page that he and his staff are safe.

"Out thoughts and prayer are with anyone who may be injured, as well as the brave first responders," Heller said in the tweet.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, paid tribute to the officers involved in the incident.

"The brave men and women of our Capitol Police put their lives on the line every day to protect us, and I thank them for their service," Reid said in a tweet.

A spokesman for Rep. Joe Heck, R-Dist. 3, told FOX5 that the congressman and his staff were in the office when he received the notice from Capitol police. He said Heck and his staff followed emergency preparedness protocols, and that all staff were safe.

Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Dist. 4, posted on his Twitter page that everyone in his office is safe and awaiting further instructions.

Horsford's colleague Rep. Dina Titus, D-Dist. 1, posted on Twitter after the lockdown was lifted, "Everyone in my office is accounted for and safe."

Rep. Mark Amodei could not immediately be reached for comment.
