LAS VEGAS (FOX5/AP) -

The building that once housed Clark County's judicial holdings was sold Tuesday to the owner of a downtown Las Vegas casino.

The Clark County Board of Commissioners approved a $10 million bid to buy the hall of justice at 200 S. Third St. by Derek Stevens, the owner of The D and Golden Gate hotel-casinos on Fremont Street.

Stevens' bid was the only one submitted for the 315,000-square-foot building.

FOX5 spoke with Stevens on Tuesday. While he didn't specify any plans for the property purchased, he plans to demolish the courthouse.

"The plan is definitely to demolish the building, yes. Really, at this point, I don't want to get too far ahead of [myself]. I don't want to spend too much time coming up with thoughts and design. What we wanted to do was simply know what it would take to take the building down," he said.

Stevens hasn't yet determined what will become of the parking structure.

"There's a parking structure. We still have to determine whether or not that parking structure will stay. Certainly it's a courthouse building. Everything underground and all that," Stevens said.

Stevens said he should have a better idea of what will be done with the property in the coming months.

"I would say really within six months or so we should have a pretty good idea of what initially we want to get to. The demolition is going to take a while, though," he said.

According to the county, the existing, seven-story courthouse building was built in 1960 and was vacant since 2005 when the newer Regional Justice Center was completed.

Union Pacific Railroad dedicated the land in 1905 for use as a court, jail, library and city hall.
