Police issue warning after string of car break-ins in Franklin

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

Car burglaries aren't unusual, but with 31 break-ins in Franklin Sunday night, police are taking note and issuing a warning.

"This is a very safe neighborhood, so I guess this just shows that thieves can strike anywhere," said neighbor Les Clayton.

Thieves targeted the Falcon Creek and Cedarmont Farms subdivisions late Sunday night, getting into cars and stealing anything of value.

Clayton says they ransacked his new vehicle.

"It looks like they just opened the door and looked through the glove compartment and then the area between the seats just to see if there was any valuables. They didn't take anything because I didn't have anything in there, luckily. I think I was very fortunate," Clayton said.

Police say there are two simple things you can do to protect yourself. First, don't leave valuables in the car, and second, remember to lock your doors.

Investigators have not identified a suspect at this time.
