LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Clark County Coroner's office identified the woman who died in a garage fire on Friday.

The official cause of death for Carmen Michelle Salomon, 28, of Las Vegas, remained pending, according to medical examiners.

According to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Salomon died in the blaze that happened just before 1:30 a.m. Friday on Brenner Way near Bonanza Road and Lamb Boulevard.

LVFR said firefighters discovered smoke coming from a garage that was converted into an apartment.

A door into the converted apartment had a metal security bar and was locked, according to fire officials.

After ripping the bar off, firefighters found the woman at the back of the apartment amid heavy smoke, LVFR said. She was taken to University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Fire officials believe the victim most likely died of smoke inhalation.

LVFR said smoking material and candles were found inside the apartment, but the cause was still under investigation.

There was no damage to the house, fire officials said. The American Red Cross was assigned to assist an adult and three children who lived inside the house.
