A California man, who is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl at knifepoint at a Las Vegas school campus, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Richard Schlacta, 48, was arrested on Aug. 28 after a short pursuit in the area of Woodbury Middle School, according to police.

In an arrest report, police were called to an area near the 3800 block of East Harmon Avenue that morning after a girl flagged a car down. Police said, in the report, the girl stated being held by a man at knifepoint while she was locking up her bike.

The man, the girl stated to police in the report, assaulted the victim multiple times before she was able to escape.

Officers arrived in the area and found the suspect a few blocks away from the school, prompting a foot chase. Police said Schlacta was taken into custody.

He was booked into Clark County Detention Center on three counts of sexual assault with a victim under 14, attempted sexual assault with a victim under 14, first-degree kidnapping, coercion with force or threat of force, battery with a deadly weapon and battery with intent to commit sexual assault with a victim under 16.

Police noted Schlacta had no prior arrest record in the area.

Schlacta's appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court was slated for 1:30 p.m.
