MESQUITE, NV (FOX5) -

Mesquite police said a woman accused in a cancer scam involving her son turned herself in on Monday.

Police believe Shawnanna Starr Flores falsely represented her 7-year-old son as having a rare malignant liver cancer known as hepatoblastoma.

A benefit car wash for the child was held at a Mesquite gas station on Aug. 24, which raised $404. A fund for the child was established at Wells Fargo Bank and money jars were placed in businesses around the city.

A no-bail arrest warrant was issued for Flores on Monday. She was made aware of the warrant and surrendered at the Mesquite Police Department.

Flores faces 95 misdemeanor charges including obtaining money, property, rent or labor by false pretenses, larceny, neglect of a child and obstructing a public officer, among others.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Mesquite Detective Ron Richmond at 702-346-5262 ext. 6032.
