HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

A teenager is now the primary suspect in the slaying deaths of his mother and younger brother.

Adrian Navarro, 16, is the subject of a manhunt by Henderson police.

The bodies of his mother, Elvira Canales-Gomez, 40, and his brother, Cesar Navarro, 9, were discovered by police at their home on Friday.

FOX5 on Monday spoke with friends of Canales-Gomez, who said she was a hard worker, juggling two jobs with family responsibility.

One of those jobs was at the Bread and Butter bakery, located down the street from the victim's home in Henderson.

"It doesn't feel real. It's hard to accept the fact that someone so driven, so unique, so full of life could pass away," Bread and Butter General Manager Vinchenso Capon said.

"She worked here part time, as well as Bouchon (restaurant) at the Venetian. She would help us out with the bakery. We would make a lot of breads and we would do a lot of training," Capon continued.

The victims were stabbed to death inside their apartment last week. The discoveries were made when police performed a welfare check after Canalas-Gomez didn't show up for work.

"We have had different detectives show us pictures of the kid, but of course we haven't seen him or heard anything," said Bread and Butter cook Melquiades Ramirez. "I can't begin to imagine this. I don't believe her son would ever be able to do something like this to his mother because she loved [him] so much."

On Monday, letters and stuffed animals were left at the family's apartment door.

"It went from seeing her one day to talking about her the next. It doesn't feel real," Ramirez said.

Anyone who spots Adrian Navarro is asked to call 911. If you have information about this crime, you are asked to call the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4750 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
