Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Paradiso Apartments on Sunday morning after reports of someone smelling smoke coming from an upstairs apartment.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., firefighters arrived to 2701 N. Rainbow Boulevard near Rainbow Boulevard and Smoke Ranch.

Upon arrival, no fire was apparent from outside the16 unit apartment building, but when they approached the front door, firefighters could smell something burning and see smoke coming from the door.

Firefighters forced open the door to find thick smoke engulfing the apartment. The source of the smoke was from a fire in the laundry room.

No injuries were reported during this fire and no one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters say it appeared at least one adult and some children live in the unit.

The cause of this fire is undetermined. Fire investigators believe the fire started in the utility room, but the exact cause of the fire could not be determined.

The fire left damage to the laundry room and the adjoining kitchen. The rest of the apartment had moderate to heavy smoke damage.

Damage was estimated at $20,000. The apartment did have smoke alarms, but none of them activated. Neighbors say the smoke alarms never activated before or during the incident.
