LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Halloween is still more than a month off, but that hasn't deterred businesses from cashing in on the haunted holiday.

Several Halloween-themed retail stores have popped up around the Valley in the past few weeks, and they need help with staffing.

"It has kicked off. We have seen some spike this past weekend, even compared to last year. We have been real busy with people shopping early this year," said Carrie Sheerin with Halloween Mart, located on Decatur Boulevard near Sunset Road.

"We seasonally hire anywhere from 50 to 80 people every Halloween. We already hired a good chunk, about 20," Sheerin continued.

Gabrielle Zuk is one of those new hires. She said she jumped at the opportunity, even if it's only for a short time.

"Why not? Halloween is the best. It's so much fun. No guilt, free candy and you get to dress up. Nothing wrong with that," she said.

According to the National Retail Federation, seven out of 10 Americans are expected to celebrate Halloween this year, spending in the neighborhood of $80 on decorations, costumes and candy.

"We have seen a trend of people shopping early, so that is always a good sign that the economy is turning around. Our online orders are picking up as well as our store sales. We are happy to see it and hope it continues," Sheerin said.

Halloween-related sales are expected to reach $8 billion this year, according to the National Retail Federation.
