Northwest house fire under investigation

Firefighters are investigating a fire at 6637 Chardonay Way that began Sunday morning.

Dispatch received the call at 4:37 a.m., and upon arrival fire fighters found flames shooting out the window of an upstairs bedroom. They were told only two people were in the house at the time of the fire and they were safe outside.

When firefighters went upstairs, they were able to put the fire out in a few minutes. The two people who were in the home at the time of the fire told fire investigators that they were downstairs when the fire started. They went upstairs for something and saw some clothing on the floor on fire which was extending to the bed in the bedroom. They attempted to put of the fire using a fire extinguisher, but the fire was too far along.  

The damage was confined to one bedroom. Two other bedrooms and a bathroom had heat and black smoke damage. Damage was estimated at $25,000. The home did not have smoke alarms in it.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters can confirms the fire started in the bedroom. They are looking into the possibility that the fire may have started due to careless smoking.

Three adults and one child are displaced because of the fire and did not require assistance from the Red Cross. All four escaped the fire without injuries.
