A hiker is in the hospital with critical injuries from a 20-foot fall on South Mountain on Friday morning.
The Phoenix Fire Department along with Tempe and Chandler fire departments responded about 10:30 a.m. to a report of a man on a slope on the south side of South Mountain Park.
The man was put in a rescue basket and lifted on a 100-foot line under the Phoenix firebird helicopter.
Phoenix fire spokesman Larry Nunez said the man had head injuries from the fall.
