Police: Vegas jail officer hit by man with baseball bat

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A corrections officer at Clark County Detention Center was attacked by a person holding a baseball bat at the downtown Las Vegas jail, police said Wednesday.

Las Vegas Metro police received a call of the attack just before 10:30 a.m.

According to police, a person entered the front area of the jail and struck the officer with a bat.

There was no immediate word on the extent of injuries to the officer.

The suspect in the attack was detained. There was also no word on a motive for the incident.

Metro's Violent Crime Unit was assigned to investigate the incident.

Following the incident, Metro's Twitter account said social visits to the jail were temporarily suspended.
