TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Maumee Police Sgt. T.J. Stratton says Wednesday morning at 7:20 a female student of Maumee High School was walking to school when she was approached by a stranger.

Stratton says as the girl passed Wayne Trail Elementary on 7th street a black pickup truck driven by a male pulled up and asked if she wanted a ride.  The girl continued on to school and told school officials, who contacted the school police officer.

Police searched the area, but did not find a black pickup truck.

Police say the girl told the school officer it was the second time this school year the same black truck pulled up and the same male driver asked if she needed a ride. The driver was described as being a male in his 40s or 50s.

Parents picking children up from school said the news was concerning, but they have faith in the police.

"I'd like to tell the parents, please don't worry," said Sgt. Stratton. "We're out here, we're out here constantly and we're doing a good job with the safety of the kids. We keep an eye on these schools."
