Hoping to add a bit more power to the power play, the Las Vegas Wranglers on Tuesday announced the signing of rugged center Matt Tassone.

Tassone, 23, debuted in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads, amassing seven goals and three assists. The 6', 201-pound forward then appeared with the Ontario Reign, totaling five goals and eight assists during the 2011-12 season.

Tassone last season skated with the Wichita Thunder and Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League. During the season, Tassone played well enough to earn a call-up to the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters, recording a goal and 26 penalty minutes in 13 games.

Tassone finished the 2012-13 season with the ECHL's Elmira Jackals, helping the team to the playoffs.

"Matt is a big, strong forward who can put the puck in the net," said Wranglers head coach and General Manager Mike Madill. "He's a guy who will help us on the power play, an area we must be much better in this season. He plays very hard and is a great person to have in the locker room."

Tassone spent his amateur career in Canada's Western Hockey League, compiling 73 goals and 46 assists in 187 games with the Swift Current Broncos.

The Wranglers' 11th season of hockey will get underway in just over a month, the team set to square off with the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Orleans Arena. For tickets and more information, visit www.lasvegaswranglers.com.
