PD: Father shoots daughter in North Las Vegas Sunday

Posted: Updated:

North Las Vegas police responded to the 4100 block of Hollis Street, near Craig and Commerce Street, with reports of shots fired Sunday morning.

"I don't know how this could have occurred. I'm in such shock because it's quiet out here," said next door neighbor Franchesca McCall.

Officers arrived to the home at approximately 5:17 a.m. and discovered a 52-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman inside their home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medical teams pronounced both people dead on scene.

Investigators said the family was in a heated argument during the evening. They said the man shot his 25-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself. They said two additional adults were in the home at the time of the shooting, and suffered no injuries.

"We spent the Fourth of July together and we exchanged Christmas gifts during Christmas time. We always waved and said, 'Hi,' to each other. That's why this is really hard," said neighbor Cynthia Lee.

After detectives left the scene, friends and family members were seen carrying belongings across the street to a relative's house. They declined to speak about the matter.

"It's too bad. It shouldn't of happened. I don't understand," added Lee.

The identity and official cause of death of the father and daughter will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
