Police investigate critical injury crash involving stolen car
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Metro is investigating a critical two-car accident involving a stolen car that happened at approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday night.
Police say a marked LVMPD patrol unit discovered a 1999 Honda Civic near Jones Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard that was reported stolen. The patrol unit followed the stolen vehicle into a gas station at Decatur Boulevard and Vegas Drive, when the Civic driver sped out of the parking lot.
For safety reasons, police decided not to pursue this vehicle and lost sight of the Civic when the driver ran a red light at Decatur Boulevard while crossing Washington Avenue.
According to reports, a 2005 Nissan Sentra was making a left hand turn on to Kansas Avenue from the left turn lane of northbound Decatur Boulevard in the path of the Civic, and the two vehicles collided.
The driver of the Civic was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to UMC Trauma for critical injuries, according to police. The driver of the Sentra was transported for minor injuries.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
