LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Two men, who are suspected in the beating and asphyxiation death of another man whose body was found in an east Las Vegas dumpster, were each arrested in California.
A spokesperson with the Clark County District Attorney's Office said Emilio Arenas, 43, and Peyton Hemingway were separately arrested on a murder charge last month.
The spokesperson said Arenas was arrested in San Diego while Hemingway was apprehended in Santa Ana, CA. A criminal complaint said Arenas' vehicle was located in Mexico.
According to criminal complaints, the two men were identified as suspects in the death of Carl Rane Simon, 50. His body was found on Aug. 12, stuffed in a rolling suitcase located in a dumpster in the area of East Lake Mead and North Nellis boulevards.
In the complaints, at least two witnesses saw two men engaged in an argument with a third person, who was identified as Simon, that turned physical inside an apartment in the 4800 block of Boulder Highway.
Citing the witnesses, Las Vegas Metro police wrote, in the report, the men were angry about Simon taking their money and failing to return with narcotics.
The witnesses, as stated in the complaint, said they left during the fight but later returned to find Simon nowhere in the apartment. In addition, the witnesses told police, in the complaint, some bed sheets were missing when they returned.
A person later found a suitcase stuffed with Simon's body along with bloodied bed sheets in a dumpster, according to the complaint.
The witnesses said they knew one of the suspects as Arenas but, with some certainty, identified the other person involved as Hemingway, the complaint said.
The district attorney's office said it was notified of Arenas' arrest on Aug. 28. He waived extradition and was brought back to Las Vegas to face charges.
Hemingway, who was charged with murder on Aug. 19, refused to waive extradition. As of Thursday, extradition proceedings were underway, according to the district attorney's office.
Both men were additionally charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
