CARSON CITY, NV (FOX5) -

Nevada's new unemployment insurance system may cause delays for some people looking to file claims, according to the Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Department.

DETR Director Frank Woodbeck said the new system, called "UInv," was being launched in stages, which has resulted in minor delays in the ability of some people to file claims. He said other people may also experience a one-day delay in receiving their weekly payments.

Woodbeck said that the new internet portal used by claimants will be rolled out within the next three days, but the telephone system was launched at 9 a.m. Wednesday. He said people wanting to file claims should use the phone-based system until the web-based system is working.

"We are being very conservative in the launch of the new system, as several steps are necessary to ensure proper processing of benefit payments to our customers," Woodbeck said. "We ask that our customers be patient with us as this is the culmination of a nearly four-year process."

Woodbeck said the new system will increase the security for the unemployment benefits program.
