HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
Dozens of family members and friends gathered on Tuesday evening to remember Jared Peters, a young man killed in a car wreck this past weekend.
Those in attendance said the 23-year-old was full of life and will be greatly missed.
"He was the most genuine and loyal person I'd ever met. He was a friend to any hand that shook his. He'd do absolutely anything for anyone," friend Kevin Chase said.
Peters was killed at Pebble Road and Carnegie Drive in Henderson early on Saturday morning. The driver, Arnold Cheung, was speeding and possibly under the influence of alcohol, according to police, when he blew through a stop sign and slammed into a wall.
"The unfortunate part about this is they were friends, and this young man, it was a mistake and he has to live with the fact of what occurred to his friend," said Peters' uncle, Dale Harelik.
Jared Peters was a graduate of Coronado High School. He recently graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he had a scholarship to play lacrosse.
Harelik told FOX5 the young man dreamed of going into international marketing.
"It's awful. Children should not die before their parents," Harelik said.
Peters' funeral is set for Friday at 11 a.m. at Palm Mortuary on Eastern Avenue.
Cheung remains in the hospital. Henderson police said he faces a charge of DUI with death, depending on the outcome of a toxicology report.
