A Las Vegas man charged with child abuse is also facing a count of murder after an infant died from his injuries.

The Clark County Coroner's office confirmed Tuesday the death of 5-month-old Caiden Blane Chamberlain. The cause and manner of death were pending.

According to an arrest report by Las Vegas Metro police, the child was rushed to Sunrise Trauma Center on Aug. 29. The report said attending doctors contacted police believing the boy's injuries may have been the result of abuse. An official with Sunrise said the child died on Aug. 30.

Police in the report identified Anthony Casey, 31, as the boy's caretaker. Police said Casey had been taking care of the child while his roommate – the boy's mother – was at work.

In the report, the mother told police the boy was acting normal when she left him in Casey's care. Casey kept in contact with the mother through Facebook during the day, the report said.

It wasn't until Casey told the mom, in the report, that the child was "acting weird" and she needed to come home.

In the report, Casey describes to the mother of the child going limp and telling her he may have caused a bruise to the child when he nearly fell.

Later on Thursday, police, the report said, went to Casey's home to make contact with him, but he did not answer them.

After a search warrant was obtained, police, in the report, required SWAT officers to arrest Casey, who has a prior criminal record.

Casey later denied, in the report, any falls or accidents with the child. Casey also denied causing the boy's injuries and could not explain the reason for them, police said in the report.

Police later interviewed the victim's six-year-old half-sister regarding the day her brother was hospitalized. Citing the girl's statements, the report said Casey was picking her up from school but stated he needed to hurry because the Chamberlain was by himself.

In the report, the girl said Casey went to check on the boy when they arrived. She proceeded to watch TV, the report said.

Casey, as the girl stated in the report, was seen bringing the infant downstairs where she was. The girl told police, in the report, the baby looked like he was sick and "like he was going to die."

The girl recalled, in the report, times when Casey would put his hands around the victim's throat when he was crying. The girl, though, believed Casey was check for a sore throat.

She also stated, in the report, her belief of someone going into the room she shares with Caiden and beating the child due to the bruising. The report said the girl denied seeing anyone actually doing so, though.

According to the Clark County Detention Center inmate database, Casey was originally booked on a count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and child abuse/neglect.

A search on Tuesday, though, showed Casey's child abuse with substantial bodily harm charge upgraded to open murder.

A 72-hour hearing for the murder charge was slated for Thursday, according to the database.
