A 75-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle early on Tuesday morning while attempting to cross Boulder Highway near College Drive.

Police said that at 4:35 a.m., the still unidentified man was hit by a 2002 Acura TL. Henderson police identified the driver as Betty Bodell, 79, of Henderson.

Police said the man was not in a marked crosswalk and was more than 300 feet from the nearest intersection. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bodell voluntarily submitted to a blood test. Police said it did not appear she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and that nothing indicates speed was a factor.

Boulder Highway was closed for more than three hours as officers investigated the accident.

One of the officers attending to the accident scene was shot at by a suspect. She escaped unharmed and police later exchanged gunfire with the man. He was struck and died later at a hospital.

Police said that the shooting and pedestrian fatality are unrelated.

This marked the first pedestrian fatality in Henderson so far in 2013.
