LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 37-year-old woman was charged with driving under the influence after, police say, her vehicle veered into the opposing flow of traffic, causing damage to four other cars and injuring several other people.

Las Vegas Metro police reported the incident in the area of East Desert Inn and South Sandhill roads about 2:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said eight people were taken to a hospital for treatment, one of which suffered life-threatening injuries. That victim was ejected from a vehicle.

According to police, a 2008 Scion TC driven by Angela Mageras was heading westbound on Desert Inn when it crossed over into the eastbound lanes.

The vehicle struck a Nissan Sentra in the middle of three eastbound lanes. The Scion also struck another vehicle trailing the Sentra, with that collision causing a rear-end crash involving a mini-van behind it.

Police said a fourth vehicle was struck by the Scion in the left hand lane. Mageras' Scion came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

In an arrest report, police learned from an attending physician at Sunrise Hospital that Mageras told him she had been drinking before the incident.

Police said, in the report, Mageras had an odor of alcohol on her breath. She told an officer, in the report, she drank two bloody marys and two Bud Light beverages at Arizona Charlie's casino before the wreck. The last beverage was consumed about 20 minutes before the incident, she told police in the report.

She told police in the report she was driving home at the time.

Police took two blood draws from Mageras for testing. She was booked in absentia at Clark County Detention Center on a count of driving under the influence with substantial bodily harm.

Police said Desert Inn in both directions was shut down from Sandhill to Backstage Boulevard for several hours.
