LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A hit-and-run driver slammed into a light pole west of the Las Vegas Strip, causing traffic to slow, police said Tuesday.

Las Vegas Metro police reported the incident just before 6 a.m. near W. Tropicana Avenue and Dean Martin Drive.

Police said the driver appeared to have fled on foot after the vehicle slammed into a light pole and knocked it over. The vehicle remained on scene, police noted.

Metro said several surrounding traffic lights and light poles were also inoperable following the incident.

Clark County engineers were dispatched to clean up the damage and work on the light pole. There was no word on when lights will be back to full operation.

FOX5 Traffic Anchor Chris Brown suggested motorists take Flamingo Road as an alternate route around the crash area.
