LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 19-year-old who aspired to become a Las Vegas Metro police officer will be laid to rest on Wednesday after his death in a hit-and-run accident.

Metro's Explorers program announced memorial events for Angel Velasquez, who died after his motorcycle collided with a hit-and-run driver on Aug. 1.

A funeral for Velasquez was scheduled for Wednesday at Trinity Life Church at 1000 E. St. Louis Ave. at 12:30 p.m. The teen's burial will follow at Palm Cemetery at 6701 N. Jones Blvd.

Later that evening, a candlelight vigil will be held at Sahara Avenue and Van Patten Street beginning at 8 p.m.

The street corner where the vigil is being planned was where Velasquez's motorcycle collided with a car, according to Las Vegas Metro police. Police said the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene but was later arrested.

Velasquez later died at Sunrise Hospital.

Members of the Explorers program held a benefit car wash on Saturday to raise money for Velasquez's funeral expenses. A bank account was also set up to help Velasquez's family with funeral expenses: Benefit Memorial Fund for Angel Velasquez, Wells Fargo, Account No. 3771101486.
