LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Forwards are important, but defense can make or break a hockey team. The Las Vegas Wranglers on Tuesday announced they have re-signed a key defenseman from their 2012 run at the Kelly Cup.

Jeff May, 26, has agreed to terms with the team for the 2013-14 season.

May, 6'2" and 201 pounds, first skated with the Wranglers during the 2008-09 season, notching four goals and 10 points. He was also on the blue line, when the Wranglers lost to the Florida Everblades, during the 2012 Kelly Cup Finals.

"After playing next to [Wranglers Head Coach Mike] Madill for a couple of seasons, I have all the confidence that he will be a great coach, and I'm looking to coming back and doing my part to make this a championship team," May said.

May spent last season in France, accumulating eight goals and nine assists with Les Ducs d'Angers.

"Jeff is another big piece to our puzzle here in Las Vegas. No matter how a game is going, he is always giving 100 percent, and will do anything he can to help contribute. Jeff can play and do very well in any situation, and he will be a valuable weapon on the power play and penalty kill," Madill said.

The Wranglers will open their 11th season at Orleans Arena on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit www.lasvegaswranglers.com.
