LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

What seemed to be an endless motorcade of police officers quickly turned into a sea of law enforcement driving down Las Vegas Boulevard.

"We didn't realize what was going on until the van came by with the coffin on it," said Wayne Roberts, a tourist from New England.

"We were in our hotel room and out of our window, we could see the big procession going down with all the motorcycles and police officers," said tourist Cory Bernaert.

The family of Officer David Vanbuskirk, members of the Search and Rescue Air Support Team, Metro police and other law enforcement agencies began the 45-minute procession from Palm Eastern Mortuary and down the Strip. Images of the fallen officer were displayed on hotel billboards.

"We watched the police officers go by," said Tessa Ellebrecht, another tourist. "We were unsure, at first, of what it was regarding, but it came together after. I knew that's what they were doing it for. Its a huge thing. It's very emotional."

"He gave the ultimate sacrifice," said tourist Emily Flaherty. "It's an honor he should be paid, I think."

Metro officers blocked any vehicle or foot traffic from the procession's path for a smooth flow.

After driving through the beltway and Highway 95, the motorcade arrived at Central Christian Church for a memorial service. Hours later, the procession continued to the officer's final resting place, where several people came out to show their support for the fallen hero.

"Showing tremendous respect and tremendous sense of loss to what they feel right now," said local resident Dave Sawaetzky.
