LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A church group visiting the Las Vegas Valley has fallen victim to thieves. Their SUV and trailer were stolen from a restaurant parking lot on Thursday.
The group lost almost everything they had while driving all the way from Kentucky.
"We estimate probably in the neighborhood of $50,000 worth of stuff, and our truck trailer and all of our supplies were stolen and taken. We lost it all," said group leader Ken Ford.
Ken Ford and his group are performing mission work in Las Vegas. About 70 members came to help the Summerlin Baptist Church put on a vacation Bible school this weekend.
"We do this every year. We take a large mission trip somewhere, and we go out and we try to help a local church dig deeper into the community," Ford said.
The group's black GMC Yukon and a trailer full of equipment and luggage was parked in a Chili's lot at Fort Apache Avenue and Charleston Boulevard.
The group had been on the road all day and wanted to stop for dinner. When they left the restaurant, everything was gone.
"Amplifiers, speakers, soundboards – we had thousands and thousands of dollars worth of tools," Ford said. "We have people that don't even have clothes and we had to go to Walmart this morning just to get them a change of clothes. They had nothing."
Despite the setback, the group will go on with the mission.
"Thankfully, a couple of other churches in town have been able to donate their decorations and craft supplies and other things so that we can pull off this event. That is a total blessing," said Gail Fee with Summerlin Community Baptist Church.
Ford said the thieves got one thing they might need more than the group does.
"One good thing about it, there's a lot of Bibles in there. Maybe they'll read some of that," he said, laughing.
