A Las Vegas man charged with murder and child abuse connected to a toddler's death is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Detrail Young, 24, was arrested on June 13 following the death of 16-month-old Quie'sear Williams-Caraway.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, Young was taking care of the child when the tot became unresponsive and stopped breathing.
The child was taken to University Medical Center, where, according to police, doctors determined the girl had injuries consistent with abuse. The child was later pronounced dead.
Young, whose girlfriend assumed guardianship over the toddler from her cousin, told police, in an arrest report, he has shaken the child before whenever she started crying. Young, though, initially denied causing any mistreatment to the child, according to the report.
Young was scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court at 9 a.m.
