A 28-year-old Las Vegas man was booked into Clark County Detention Center Monday, accused of choking his girlfriend several times, while he forced her inside a bathroom at their home.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Las Vegas Justice Court, Steven Christopher Gazlay was charged with attempted murder, felony domestic violence battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic violence battery.
In a warrant declaration released Tuesday, Las Vegas Metro police investigated Gazlay into an incident that took place on May 20 at the home he shared with his girlfriend in the west end of the valley.
Police said, in the declaration, Gazlay's girlfriend claimed she was grabbed by the throat by her boyfriend, and forced into a bathroom. The girlfriend, as described in the declaration, told police Gazlay would choke her until she was unable to breathe, and about to lose consciousness.
He would release pressure until she recovered, and then repeated choking her several times, police learned from the girlfriend in the declaration.
It wasn't until she fought back that she was able to escape and contact police, police described in the declaration.
Police, in the declaration, said her injuries included bruises and reddening on her throat, shoulder, arm and left foot.
A search of the Clark County Detention Center inmate database showed Gazlay's arrest date for July 22. A felony arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 1.
