LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A property management company is asking for help in identifying thieves.

Three men were caught on camera stealing rent checks from the company's drop box.

"They made it look so easy, you would have thought they were just reaching their hand in and pulling it out," said Bonnie Barberini with Oaktree Property Management.

Video caught two men helping themselves to several dozen checks and money orders meant for the company.

"July 2, when we checked the mail, we noticed that there was a sticky substance at the bottom of the mail drop," Barberini said.

Barberini believes that substance was from fly tape the thieves used, along with a coat hanger to get the envelopes out.

"[We're] very angry. A lot of them [tenants] really understood, and they were more than happy that we found out quick, and they could put a stop payment on it," said Barberini.

The thieves didn't strike in one night. After getting what they wanted from the drop box, they left tape in the slot, coming back to the next night to get all the other envelopes dropped during the day.

It's a crime police say they see all the time.

"Typically what they would do is take these checks and do what they used to call washing, basically attempting to wash the ink off a check and then reuse the check," said Metro's Jose Hernandez.

Oaktree was hit a third time on July 4. A man with a large tattoo on his neck tried to pry the cover off the drop box but failed.

Oaktree is offering a $500 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to arrests.

Police recommend always handing rent checks and other forms of payment over in person rather than using a drop box.
