LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police say a fire just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, led to the discovery of a marijuana grow operation.

Firefighters were called to a house on Old Salt Circle, in the west Valley near Fort Apache Road and Lake West Drive, at 12:39 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters then called Metro police, believing the home to be a grow house.

"Maybe about 40 marijuana plants is what we recovered," said Metro narcotics Lt. Laz Chavez. "And quite a bit of freshly harvested marijuana. The whole second floor of the residence was being used as a marijuana grow."

Metro police says plants from the house were worth an estimated $100,000.

Police said the home was being rented.

The investigation is ongoing, and that so far no arrests have been made and no one is in custody.

"He'd come out and talk sports with ya. He was a great guy, that's why I'm shocked," said a neighbor referring to one of the residents of the home.

There is no word on what started the fire.
