PHOENIX (CBS5) -

More than 60 pounds of heroin valued at around $1.5 million has been seized at three West Valley homes by Arizona Department of Public Safety detectives.

Detectives with DPS' Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau served search warrants at the homes and arrested two Phoenix men.

Victor Orozco, 53, and Pedro Zazueta-Medina, 56, were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of transportation of a narcotic drugs for sale, money laundering, conducting an illegal enterprise and conspiracy.

Detectives said they also recovered about $250,000 in cash. The cash and heroin were packaged and wrapped in electrical tape.

The investigation began with a traffic stop by a DPS highway patrol officer several weeks ago.

Investigators said it appears the homes served as distribution centers after the heroin was transported to the Phoenix area from across the border.

The investigation is ongoing.
