LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The campaign to save Las Vegas' aging Huntridge Theater reached its initial fundraising goal on Monday and all it took was one "killer" donation.

According to the Save the Huntridge crowdfunding site on Indiegogo, hometown band The Killers contributed a listed undisclosed amount of money on Monday in the effort.

A source close to the project confirmed to FOX5 the music group's substantial donation pushed the campaign to surpass its $150,000 goal. The deadline to reach the goal was listed for 11:59 p.m. PST on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday, donations continued to funnel into the campaign.

According to the consortium behind the effort, Huntridge Revival, LLC, the money raised would be the capital needed to acquire and renovate the concert performing arts venue. The crowdsourcing effort went live on June 4.

The group, though, said the total amount needed for the entire project is looking to be between $12 million and $15 million.

In hopes to entice donations, the group announced rewards for certain contributed amounts. Donations for as little as $5 and as much as $25,000 were rewarded with souvenirs and member benefits once the theater reopens.

The Huntridge Theater, which its future was in limbo for much of the last decade, was first opened in 1944 and temporarily closed in 2004.
