The Carpenter 1 fire on Mount Charleston has claimed six structures, all in the Prospect Springs Ranch area.

Included in the destruction was a lodge and a few cabins. FOX5 spoke with one of the owners, who is in disbelief.

"[I was] hoping it wouldn't come this far, but day after day it kept moving our way," said Barry Becker, part owner of Prospect Springs Ranch.

Eleven people jointly own the 40-acre area. The owners and their families often use it as a retreat for everything from holiday getaways to Super Bowl parties.

"Lots of great memories. We've had rehearsal dinners for two or three of the members. We've had a wedding up there," Becker said.

Some parts of the ranch are unscathed, including pastures near a pond where horses roam. A few cabins were also spared. Becker credits firefighters.

"Clearing brush, sawing down trees for structure protection," he said.

One of the owners lives at the ranch year-round. He has been keeping Becker and the others in the loop for the past week.

"What's most disturbing is our environment. Instead of lush, green forest with cedars and pinyon and scrub oak, I'm afraid we have a lot of black dirt with skeleton trunks," Becker said.

The area is closed off so the majority of the owners haven't seen the destruction. They have insurance and hope to rebuild.

The Prospect Springs area was originally used in the 1800s as a summer location for livestock because of the abundance of water.

The current owners purchased the land in 1990.
