Auburn junior tight end C.J. Uzomah is among
37 players named to the 2013 preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award,
presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.
"It's an honor to be mentioned among the top tight ends this
preseason, but I realize there is still a lot of work to be done," Uzomah said.
"Individual achievements are a blessing and I give the glory to God, but more
important is what our team can achieve in the season ahead."
Uzomah, a 6-4, 253-lb. junior from Suwanee, Ga., has
earned two letters for the Tigers. Last season, he was a late-season starter,
recording seven receptions for 136 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown catch
from Jonathan Wallace versus Texas A&M.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be
the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all
others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as
demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and
his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
The recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee; the award will be presented live December 12 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2013 Midseason Watch List on October 14; the semifinalists on November 18; and the 2013 Mackey Finalists on November 25.
