Cannery Casino Resorts offers rooms to fire evacuees

Posted: Updated:

With more than 500 people evacuated from Mount Charleston due to the growing Carpenter 1 fire, the Las Vegas Valley community is stepping up, providing free temporary housing.

Cannery Casino Resorts is now offering 40 free hotel rooms at its properties for up to 10 days, the amount of time it's estimated it will take for crews to get the fire contained.

Cannery Casino Resorts owns and operates the Cannery Casino & Hotel in North Las Vegas and the Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Boulder Highway in Las Vegas.

"We are very concerned about the displaced families who have been separated from their homes during these mandatory evacuations," said Xavier Walsh, Cannery Casino Resorts chief operating officer. "We have a longstanding practice of supporting the community, and so when we heard about the evacuation we knew we needed to do something impactful for our neighbors by making them more comfortable and contributing to the Red Cross relief effort."

The room donations were made to the Red Cross and are limited to Kyle Canyon residents who checked into Red Cross shelters.
