Lane of Vegas Strip shuts down Monday

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The far right lane of southbound Las Vegas Boulevard began a long-term closure on Monday.

MGM Resorts had originally planned to shut down the lane from Rue de Monte Carlo to Tropicana Avenue on Monday, July 8. The company, though, said on July 3 it would delay the closure to a future date.

In addition, the far right lane on westbound Tropicana from the Strip is also closed.

According to MGM Resorts, the closures make way for construction of a $100 million entertainment district between the New York-New York and Monte Carlo properties.

Plans for the district, which was announced in April, include new facades for the casinos, which would complement plans for an upcoming 20,000-seat arena planned to be built between the two properties.

The company said the lane closure was expected through next February.
