HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

A 21-year-old Henderson man told police an intruder stabbed his father to death before admitting to the slaying himself, according to authorities.

Henderson police said Frank H. Nichols III was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.

According to police, Nichols called 911 about an assault that took place inside his home in the area of Stephanie Street and Patrick Lane at about 11 a.m.

Police said Nichols told dispatchers he was in the backyard of the home when he heard screaming from inside.

Nichols told police he found his father stabbed to death once inside. He also told police he saw a man dressed in black run out the front door, which prompted him to give chase.

Police, though, said evidence at the scene could not support Nichols' initial claims.

Police also said officers did not locate anyone with the description as told by Nichols.

Police said Nichols changed his story and admitted to getting into a fight with his father and stabbing him.

Nichols was arrested after being treated for injuries from the fight at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus, according to police.

Police noted the incident marked the third murder in Henderson this year.

The Clark County Coroner's office was assigned to identify the slaying victim and determine a cause of death.
