Some bundle up in extreme heat

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Venture anywhere in the Valley during the summer and less clothing is optimal, but many are bundling up to survive this extreme heat - in an ice skating rink.

There are two ice rinks located in the Valley open year-round, the Las Vegas Ice Center on Flamingo Road and the Fiesta Rancho Ice Arena on Rancho Drive.

"I just think it's too hot to hang out at the pool and this is a great place you can come," said Fiesta Rancho Ice Arena director Rob Pallin. "It's 65 degrees all day long."

"It's kind of nice to have those escapes where you're not hot or sweaty or hesitating," said skater Zaira Centeno.

Some just sat in the arena to cool off.

"I've got reading material, making phone calls. It's the best place in the summertime," said Jim Brasier who was sitting in the arena's bleachers.

Figure skaters were training at the Las Vegas Ice Center for a major competition beginning Saturday.

"It feels great to come down here almost every day, cool off, take off the heat," said figure skater Michelle Rudski.

The Las Vegas Ice Center is located at 9295 W. Flamingo Rd.

The Rancho Fiesta Ice Arena is located at 2400 N. Rancho Dr.
