Heat could cause flight delays, cancellations

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The extreme heat the Valley is suffering through could put the brakes on your travel plans. In some instances, the lift problems associated with high temperatures or other mechanical problems could delay flights or cause cancellations at McCarran Airport.

Clark County Department of Aviation spokesperson Christine Crews said while the airport had a few cancellations and delays on Friday, they weren't necessarily due to weather conditions at McCarran.

"Airlines experience staffing and mechanical issues, and as the day goes on, flights can state to run behind. A flight from A arriving late to B means that the trip from B to C is not likely to arrive on time either," Crews said.

Conditions at destination airports will affect flights as well.

Crews said the FAA monitors conditions such as heat and weather but that the airlines will delay or cancel flights.
